St. Bonaventure

Chapel of St. Anthony of Padua, Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, Ravenna, Italy

The artist has chosen a restricted palette of white and gold, so the cadinal's hat at St. Bonaventure's feet does not immediately register as what it is. The red hat and the cross on his chest are two of the saint's attributes.

The statue holds a book with the words vita sancti antonii patavi, "The Life of St. Anthony of Padua." I have not been able to identify such a title among St. Bonaventure's writings.
